The School of Life Sciences (SLS) was founded in July 2005. It developed from the Department of Biology of Guangzhou Normal University and School of Education (Teachers College) Guangzhou University which were merged into the School of Biological and Chemical Engineering in 2000 and later became two independent schools. SLS
3 undergraduate majors, including Biological Science, Biotechnology and Bioengineering;
SLS also has
Biology First-Level Disciplines Master Program, Curriculum and Teaching Theory (Biological Education) Second-Level Disciplines Master Program and Disciplines Teaching (Biology) Education Master Program. There are over 830 on-campus students (including postgraduates).
Faculty and Staff:
There are 79 faculties and staffs including 48 Ph.D. holders. Among the 55 full-time faculties, 17 of them are professors, 23, associate professors, 6
postdoctoral co-supervisors, 6

We have 1 provincial level practice base for students– Daya Bay Coastal Zoology Fieldwork Base Cluster; 2 municipal postgraduate practice teaching bases: Provincial Institute of Insects and Municipal Academy of Agricultural Sciences; 7 university-level fieldwork bases; Guangzhou Zoo, South China Botanical Garden, Haida Group, Zhuhai Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, Municipal Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Overseas Chinese High School and Qingyuan Rongda Biological Engineering Co., Ltd.; and there are more than 10 school-level fieldwork bases, which would satisfy the
needs of the school’s teaching and researches of different levels.
SLS cooperated with Department of Education of Guangdong Province to establish two
key research platforms for international cooperation (Guangzhou University Plant
Stress-Resistant International Cooperation Research Center and Guangzhou University – Keele University (UK) Gene Interference and Application Associated Research Center), and other research institutions including Guangzhou University M
olecular Genetics And Evolutional Innovation Research Center, Precision Gene Editing Engineering Center, Guangzhou University Gene Function and Biochip Research Center, Bioengineering Institute and South China Institute of Biodiversity; it also establishes several research teams in the fields of Soybean Molecular Design Breeding, Key Gene Function Research and Application, Plant Stress Biology and Molecular Breeding, Animal Taxonomy and Diversity Conservation, Plant Ecology and Diversity Conservation, Molecular Physiology and Endocrinology, Development and Utilization of Important Biological Resources in South China.
In recent 5 years, our school has undertaken 100 research projects and the research fund have reached 38 million RMB.
all the research projects there are nearly 20 national projects and more than 20 provincial projects, the total funding of the projects exceed 38 million Yuan. More than 200 articles have been published and about 50 of them were indexed by SCI. 8 monographs and textbooks were published.
